Ch. Ste. Michelle
2001 Horse Heaven Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc
Columbia Valley, Washington
Toasty oak and vanilla are framed by aromas
of tropical fruit and refreshing citrus. Loads of
fruit emerge on the palate: honeydew, ripe apricot
and grapefruit. A very expressive wine, with bright
acidity balanced by abundant fruit.
Forefathers
2002 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc New Zealand
This vintage was a more typical harvest, that featured
long hang time for great flavor development. The cooler,
longer harvest accentuates the spicy, citrus elements.
This, combined with the naturally balanced acid, gives
this wine a long structure and great texture making
it a refined and delicate, classic Sauvignon Blanc.
Since, our first vintage in 1998, this is the most
interesting.
This Sauvignon Blanc offers citrus, stone fruit
(peach) and pear characters both in aroma and taste.
The wine is fully textural with good fruit and body
in the mid palate. The finish, being a little more
structural, gives excellent length and delivery.
Goldwater 2002 Dog Point Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
New Zealand
The wine has excellent varietal bouquet with
passionfruit, melon, peach and spice notes. The
palate has power and weight, silken texture, richness
and balance with great length and splendid natural
acidity. The wine is best enjoyed while still young
and exuberant. Food Suggestions: Oysters, seafood
and white meats and as an aperitif with canapes.
2002 was an exceptional year in Marlborough. Ideal
spring weather was followed by a warm and extremely
dry summer which produced probably the best vintage
yet seen in Marlborough. This great weather allowed
us to pick the precise day of ripening with no compromise,
producing an absolutely stunning wine with intense
tropical fruit flavours combined with silken mouth
feel and great length.
Hogue 2001 Fruit Forward Fume Blanc Columbia Valley,
Washington
Making a consistently
great Fumé Blanc requires paying keen attention
to ripeness. Picking too early results in green,
undeveloped flavors in the wine. Picking too late
produces an alcoholic, flabby wine without enough
balancing acidity. Picking at optimal ripeness
makes a wine that tastes like a recently ripened
peach or guava fruit with refreshing acidity.
Our 2000 Fumé Blanc has well-developed
aromas of fresh cut hay, peach, guava and vanilla
with a hint of smokiness. Some subtle notes of
dried fig and rosemary hide behind the bright
fruit. On the palate the wine is crisp and tight
with moderate weight and varietal flavors of citrus,
fine herbs and guava. Try this Fume Blanc with
steamed clams or mussels, or with softshell crab.
Murphy-Goode 2001 Fume Blanc Sonoma Valley, California
Murphy-Goodes flagship wine. Starting in the vineyards,
our Sauvignon Blanc fruit is grown to bring out
tropical notes instead of green herbaceouness.
Winemaker Christina Benz cool ferments most of
the juice in stainless to heighten the bright
fruit and barrel ferments the rest for roundness
and texture. The combination adds up to a crisp
wine with notes of ripe grapefruit, tropical fruits
and fig.
