Flora Springs
2000 Merlot Napa Valley, California Superb
Napa Merlot, and always a good value! The 2000 Estate
Merlot is a wine that begs to be enjoyed. The nose
is alluring with lush plums and black cherries predominating.
The flavors are lush, smooth and lingering.
The 2000 growing season started early. Often, early
budbreak and flowering indicated an early harvest.
This was not the case in 2000. The growing season
was mild and then harvest presented a bit of a roller
coaster ride with a potpourri of weather instead
of the normal burst of late warm ripening weather.
Winemaker Ken Deis has declared this "Merlot
Year" and we are delighted with the results.
Franciscan 2000
Merlot Napa Valley, California This wine shows
rich, lush and velvety fruit flavors of cherries,
plums and blackberries that merge with light toasted
oak. Our Oakville estate produces distinctive, supple
Merlot characterized by flavors of cherries and plums.
Blended with a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon
and Cabernet Franc this wine is well balanced and
structured with a lingering finish.
Gallo of Sonoma 2000 Merlot Sonoma Valley, California
Our Sonoma County Merlot was aged in a combination
of French, American, and European oak barrels. This
smooth, full-bodied wine has pleasant aromas of
raspberry, and an excellent balance between ripe
fruit flavors and structured tannins.
Greg Norman Estates 2000 Limestone Coast Cabernet/Merlot
Australia The color
is a medium to deep red with crimson hues. The
bouquet reveals rich dark berry fruit and plum
aromas, complexed by smoky, spicy oak. These flavors
are again evident on the rich palate with tight
fruit flavors persisting on the finish. This wine
has wonderful and elegant cabernet fruit characters
coupled with the softness of merlot.
Viticulture: Sourced from the Limestone Coast
region of South Australia, with the majority coming
from the Connawarra and Wrattonbully regions.
This region is famous for outcrops of red soil
that sits above a hard layer of coastal limestone
– hence the regions name.
The 2000 vintage had a long cool ripening period
allowing maximum fruit development. Yields were
well down on the previous year but fruit quality
was considered excellent.
Newton 1999 Epic Merlot Napa Valley, California
Loads of dark cherries and vanilla beans on the
nose. The finish is sensuous and lingering. Fermented
naturally without adding any yeast and left to
age in the heart of the mountain for twenty-four
months.
