Beringer 1997
Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley, California
Vintage 1997 has already been recognized as exceptional
within a decade of outstanding vintages, producing
wines of deep concentration and rich tannins that
promise longevity. The yields were generous, as were
the flavors. Said vineyard manager Bob Steinhauer,
"everyone seems to have focused on the size of
the crop, but I've been more impressed with the quality.
We saw spectacular fruit across the varietals."
The grapes for this wine were harvested from September
12 through October 11.
A wine with finesse. The rich varietal minty blackcurrant
nose and flavor are supported by a palate that is
smooth and flavorsome. Generous acidity and firm tannin
give the wine a clean strong finish. A wine that will
benefit from bottle age.
Concha y Toro 1999 Don Melchor Reserve Cabernet
Sauvignon Chile, South America
The Puente Alto Vineyard in the Maipo Valley has
the perfect combination of climate and soils for
producing world-class wine: the climate is ideal
and predictable, and the soil is poor and gravelly
to reduce yields and increase concentration naturally.
After fermentation, the wine is matured in the finest
French oak barriques for a year, followed by another
year in the bottle before release.
Diamond Creek 1982 GM Cabernet Sauvignon
(magnum) California
Our second coolest microclimate is our five-acre
Gravelly Meadow vineyard. Originally a prehistoric
river bed, this stony, gravelly soil drains rapidly
and the vines struggle for moisture. Gravelly
Meadow is our lowest yielding vineyard. The wines
are described as “earthy, cedary, jammy
and ripe blackberry with a spicy expansive finish.”
Petaluma 1999 Bridgewater Mill Cabernet Sauvignon,
Australia
The combination of maritime climate and Terra
Rossa soil produces a spicy herbal nuance on a
foundation of ripe mulberry and blackcurrant fruit.
This is an elegant and varietally distinct Cabernet
Sauvignon with medium texture, but beautifully
moderated fruit and soft creamy tannin. Few other
viticultural regions inspire in Cabernet Sauvignon
the expression of intense but restrained fruit
and balanced ripeness that is achieved in Australias
southern coast vineyards.
